River Cottage Everyday
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall
Beyond River Cottage saw the transformation of some seriously mucky cow barns into River Cottage HQ, where Hugh and the RCHQ team now run a number of events and courses designed to promote their "grow your own" philosophy and provide an environment where people can discuss, eat and learn about the very best home-grown, local, and seasonal food.
Hugh's monthly column in the Observer never pulls its punches and always incites lively comment here on the website.
His first book in the River Cottage series, THE RIVER COTTAGE COOKBOOK, was welcomed by critics as one of the most original food books for years and scooped the top food writing awards, winning the Glenfiddich Trophy, the André Simon Food Book of the Year and the Guild of Food Writers' Michael Smith Award.
THE RIVER COTTAGE MEAT BOOK focused Hugh's campaigning zeal on improving quality and welfare in the production of British meat. The book has proved to be the definitive meat cookery manual for a new generation and has recently been short-listed for the André Simon Food Book of the Year Award.
Hugh's second book, THE RIVER COTTAGE YEAR, a passionate polemic for shopping, cooking and eating in tune with the seasons is now out in paperback.
His latest book The River Cottage Family Cookbook is a generous blend of recipes, projects, history and science, and will be enjoyed by everyone who appreciates good food, home cooking and communal eating.
Hugh lives in Dorset with Marie and their sons Oscar and Freddie. He is Patron of the National Farmers' Retail and Markets Association (FARMA).
