Anton Amoncio is the winner of Food Hero 2016, Asian Food Channel and Food Network’s search for the Asia Pacific’s best new culinary talent and on-screen personality. Since being crowned Food Hero in late 2016, Anton has hosted on-air and web episodes of Asian Food Channel’s original production, Home Cooked: Philippines, a series which showcases authentic home-style Filipino fare, made simple!
Anton, who is a graduate of the Center for Culinary Arts, Manila, is the Chef-Owner of Antojos Restaurant in Quezon City, Philippines. The dishes served at Antojos tell his unique food story, which began as a child when he watched his own personal ‘food hero’, his grandmother, cook in the kitchen. Anton quickly developed a love for traditional Filipino flavors and ingredients, such as his grandmother’s signature dish of tinola, a Filipino ginger and onion based soup, amongst many other delicious dishes.
Today, the chef’s signature culinary style is representative of inspiration drawn from his travels, combining a range of international flavors with his love for traditional Filipino fare.
Apart from his work in the kitchen, Anton’s jovial personality also saw him become a regular guest chef for various daytime television shows in the Philippines, where he was given the platform to showcase his talent and share his knowledge with the masses.
Anton is a firm believer that everyone can cook and can bring their own voice to the kitchen by adding their personal touch to their own dishes. For this experienced chef, while he loves international flavors, he still feels that there is no better pick-me-up than a hot bowl of home-cooked tinola!
Anton is also music lover – he loves to sing and plays the piano whenever the music bug strikes!
