Papa’s Kitchen begins by pitting two renowned celebrity ‘papas’ against each other: international comedian, Makkun, and musician and producer, Miyake. In this exciting episode, Makkun and Miyake are challenged to guess which dishes their wives have cooked; will Makkun be able to prove to the audience he knows his wife’s Veggie-Filled Keema Curry best, and will Miyake recognize his wife’s specialty Gyoza, that has been made with Ooba leaf instead of garlic? In the final round, competitors are put to the test to create the best ‘Oyako-don’ with guidance of their families. Sounds easy, but the twist involves 30 second intervals with the use of headphones! Who will triumph this competitive episode and make the cut of being champion of Papa’s Kitchen?
Things get sticky when famous comedian and ‘Obama’ impersonator, Noochi, is put in the kitchen with multi-talented theatrical director and actor, Bunmei Kawamoto. Things get heated between Noochi and Bunmei at “Guess Mom’s Cooking” round, where Noochi struggles to identify his wife’s Hamburger dish. In the “Skewer Battle”, audiences are treated to an entertaining round of highly unusual ingredients. The fathers are then challenged to make Omurice, a staple Japanese dish consisting of fried rice wrapped in an omellete, which is then topped with ketchup. Noochi attempts to get creative with his plating, but will it be enough to win this episode of Papa’s Kitchen?
In this third episode, former sumo wrestler Masaru Hanada is challenged against Omiya-no-Matsu, TV personality and comedian. Omiya’s family of five is put on the edge of their seats as he attempts to guess his wife’s Hamburger dish. In the final round, the families are challenged to take on Japan’s favourite savoury pancake, Okonomiyaki. The kids are pleasantly surprised by their fathers’ cooking skills and the judges are left to make a very difficult decision.
Comedian, Hiroshi Neko is rivalled against former Japanese Football League player, Hiroshi Teguramori. Hiroshi explains his family is extremely fond of Dried Bonito Flakes in their cooking, and enters the kitchen confident he’ll guess his wife’s dish. In the final round, the challengers are tasked to make a classic Gomoku Chirashi, rice topped with a variety of colourful vegetables! This fun family battle will take a fine eye for detail; who will impress the judges most?
This intense episode sees Pork Hayashi, former comedian turned professional wrestling referee, battle against Mitsuharu Sato, one half of popular comedian pair, “Doki Doki Camp”. Pork is well accustomed to his wife’s secret curry ingredient – chocolate. Watch as he carefully samples each curry dish and attempts to identify his wife’s version. In the “Skewer Battle”, the fathers are hit with an unusual mix of flavours and ingredients. With family pride and bragging rights looming large, the two fathers playfully battle it out to win the chance of using the “luxury” ingredient in the next round. They are then challenged to make a dish they have never created before, Nabeyaki Udon – a hot udon noodle soup. They rely heavily on their wives’ cooking advise throughout the contest – but will it be enough to entice the judges’ taste buds?
In the grand finale episode of Papa’s Kitchen, two returning losers and winners are pitted against one another. The “worst” papa chefs, Neko Hiroshi and Miyake, are challenged to make an extremely simple dish –Tamago-yaki, a golden savory egg omelette typically served for breakfast! The most talented “papa” chefs, Masaru Hanada and Makkun, must prepare Cabbage Rolls and Homemade Miso Soup, however they have troubles following the complex recipe.
