This Indonesian beef meatball is always a hit. Here’s a quick and easy recipe to recreate at home

Beef broth

Step 1 - Prepare beef broth

  • In a pot with 2L water, bring to boil and add 6 cloves minced garlic, 2 tsp pepper and 3 tsp salt into the boiling water. Add the beef ribs/bone, and let the broth simmer on low heat for an hour or more.

Shaping beef balls

Step 2 - Mix batter and shape meatballs

  • In a mixing bowl, add 4 cloves minced garlic, ½ tsp white pepper, and 3 tsp salt to minced beef and mix. When combined, add egg, iced water and sago flour. Mix well.
  • Shape the meatballs batter into balls using an ice cream scoop, then roll with hands into a round shape.

Boil meatballs

Step 3 - Boil meatballs in broth

  • Bring broth to a boil, then add meatballs in to cook for 5-6 minutes.
In Malang, Indonesia, a traditional bowl of bakso (or Bakso Malang) isn’t complete without noodle, tofu, siomay and fried wonton.
     

      Plate and serve!
