Ingredients

Yummy tempeh is cooked in Indonesian sweet soy sauce, and works great as a side or main dish!

Deep-fried tempeh in oil

Step 1 - Deep-fry tempeh

  • In a pot on medium heat half filled with vegetable oil, deep-fry tempeh until golden brown, and tau kwa until lightly golden, about 3-4 minutes.

    Tau kwahas a low moisture content and is often used for soups and stir-frys. It is high in protein and low in fat.
  • Set aside to drain on paper towels.

Step 2 - Cook squid

  • In a pan on medium heat, add 1 Tbsp vegetable oil. When hot, add garlic, shallots, chilli and fry for 3 minutes.

  • Add fried tempeh, tau kwa, and kecap manis. Stir well to combine, then add kaffir lime leaves.

    Tempehis a traditional Indonesian soy product, and is a great replacement for meat.
  • Remove from heat.

Plate and serve!
