Sometimes you just want quality food without going to an expensive restaurant. You don't want to scrimp on your budget by resorting to ordinary street stalls either. That's why I am on a mission to find great eats around Asia for under $8 US dollars. I'm Sarah Benjamin, and this is Great for Eight.
Hong Kong is justifiably famous for its food, but some people think it can be a really expensive venture eating around this city. Places like Mak's Noodle, however, show that it's possible to experience this wonderful place in true Great for Eight style.
We're here at the Central branch on bustling Wellington Street, so let's go have a look.
So we're here at Mak's Noodle in Central and it's one of the most famous wonton mein places here in Hong Kong.
Just look at this spread. These noodles are the reason we're tucked into this corner here at Mak's Noodle. Those noodles do not disappoint. They have a really, really nice texture and they're not bland. They've almost got it taste of themselves.
I'm going to try the wonton. It's amazing how much prawn flavor they've gotten into that wonton. But when I eat my wonton, I just like to dab a little bit of vinegar on. It's so good.
You'll notice that the bowls of wonton mein here are smaller than what you might expect. They're really cute, but they're only 37 Hong Kong dollars, so it's a complete bargain.
This dry noodles with meat chutney is only 54 Hong Kong dollars, so that's a bargain as well, and I can promise you, you'll definitely be full eating this. That savory taste, the meat, it's a proper meal. Trust me.
I have to say, although this is a really authentic and delicious bowl of wonton noodles, I'm kind of in love with this [foreign language 00:02:14], meat chutney noodle. It just has really nice loose and really silky texture that goes so well with that savory umami meat sauce. You have to come and try this, and now I'm just going to go and finish this.
